1996/8/10 Sudon A Dream I Had this Morning: 3 Stories

(dream) A dream I had this morning...
I am running barefoot. The place looks somewhat like my hometown. The gravel road is mixed with pieces of broken glass, which I try to avoid as I run. The surroundings change. Some town in what seems like the Tohoku region. Large black buildings line the road. A hot spring town, perhaps. Children are playing. There is shop-like place on the right-hand side. I peek in hoping I can buy shoes there. It is silent inside. There is only candy displayed on a wooden frame, no shoes. The shop next door sells charcoal in bales. There are cow droppings on the street, which I try to avoid as I run. Still barefooted, I've developed cuts on the soles of my feet. But I keep running. No shoe stores appear.

The scene changes. I have just moved into a ground floor apartment. It has very large windows. The curtains are on the outside of the rain shutter. I am living there with the wife of an acquaintance. He spoke about human love on television or in a magazine. The following morning a number of people gather outside. They descend upon me with 10,000 yen in their hands saying, "Please be my friend!" I cannot have this go on in front of my home, so I turn them away. More people amass, so I go inside.
With this, they come stuffing 10,000-yen bills into the mail slot in the door.

The scene changes again. I give a child a book. I flip to a page with a picture of a frolicking kitten. It is a full-page photograph. Upon closer look, the kitten is moving. It stares at me while it moves up and down, left and right across the page.
