1996/9/9 Naoko This Morning's Dream: Ge Ge Ge

(dream) Sumire and I are alone at home. Sumire wants to play pool on the veranda, so we start to clear space when terrible rain and wind, topped off by hail comes down with dreadful force. Come to think of it, the same terrible hurricane that struck America must have made it to Japan. Outside, the roof of an apartment building has blown off and looks like ruins. I am nervous that my place is also in danger. For some reason a friend is there who says, "this is dangerous like this, come over to my place." As I am thinking I am afraid to take Sumire outside, the hallway fills with haze and I see the silhouette of what looks like a little girl. She seems to have come from the other world. Somehow, in the next instant I am in the hallway at school. There are four other people besides me. The little girls' shadow explains:
"When passing through this hall, you must not make association to the word 'ten.' Should you merely recall it and you will disappear. Ghosts will, however, tempt you to make the association.
We walked down the red and blue mist-filled hallway. Whatever I see I decide to associate to roast pork. The ghosts from (the cartoon) "Ge Ge Ge Kitaro" descend on us one by one trying to make us make the association to 'ten.' One after another, people disappear. I exit the door chanting "roast pork, roast pork."

Outside, amid the ruins, the sky is a dirty orange color and threatening. My younger brother says, "it's not earth." I look at the horizon and the horizon line is straight. In no time, it disappears in mist and orange mountains appear in its place. I'm panicked. Aaahh! Where am I? Where's Sumire?
From the right, a man appears dressed like the devil. He's kind of handsome so. A swish of his cape, and I am being pulled by a black-gloved hand.
This person looks like the devil, but is actually the owner of a heart like an angel. For some reason I think that if I can see past this, I can return to my former world. (The end.)
