When I think of roots, I always imagine pine trees. Apparently the beaches at Miho, Shizuoka, well known for their pine trees, are being eroded. Pine trees are grown to stop wind erosion of the beaches in the Kanto area. They are stunted and you can't see their roots, which usually look as if they are living independently of the tree.
